Why Bixby Displays Are Designed Differently
Bixby sits on larger lots than almost anywhere else in the metro, and that changes the design more than the architecture does. Homes in the additions off Memorial Drive and along the US-42 corridor often sit a hundred feet or more back from the road behind mature landscaping. A roofline outline that would look generous on a city lot reads as a thin bright line from the street here — technically correct, and underwhelming.
The answer is to light the approach as well as the house: driveway edges, the trees flanking it, entry columns and gates, so the display has depth and leads the eye toward the home rather than sitting flat against the sky. Bixby rooflines also tend to be complex, with multiple gables and second-storey peaks, which means more linear footage and considerably more ladder work than square footage alone would suggest.
